Plane Ideas:

• If you have a cold / allergies or are prone to ear aches, take a decongestant the day of departure.
• If you wear contacts, take along rewetting solution as the air can be dry in the plane.
• During takeoff and landing so your ears pop, chew a piece of gum or suck on a hard candy. Gum is great for kids and breastfeeding helps newborns.
• Drink lots of fluids (try to avoid carbonated and alcoholic ones).
• Flex and rotate ankles to avoid stiff joints and stretch as much as possible.
• To occupy children don’t forget to download some favorite movies, pack some travel or electronic games, coloring, and some favorite snacks.

Before You Leave:

• Ensure you have sufficient travel insurance.
• Be sure to update your vaccinations. Visit www.travel.gc.ca for more information. Simply type in your destination for health details.
• Arrange for someone to water the plants, take care of pets and pick up the mail and newspapers.
• Have your home checked regularly for insurance purposes.
• Empty all garbage containers.
• Make a copy of your passport and leave it with a family member.
• Attach luggage tags and identifying ribbon or tape to bags.
• Register your vacation departure with the Canadian Government at www.voyage.gc.ca.
• Register your vacation destination and dates with your credit card company.
• Gather emergency numbers, travel documentation, ID, passport, insurance info, credit cards and house keys and pack into the bag you will be carrying with you.
• Convert cash.
• Arrange for snow removal/yard care.

Above all else…

Don’t forget to take your common sense along for the trip. Crime doesn’t always take a vacation when you do!
